Lost Beyond Life and Death

Chapter 1

The popular movie star, Tyler Cane and I had been in a long-term relationship for five years. On the wedding day, he broke off the engagement with me in public while holding hands with another girl.

The guests at the scene were pointing and talking and I begged him to save my face.

But Tyler coldly pushed me away and sneered, “If you hadn't been so shameless as to cling to me, I would have married Marissa a long time ago and why would I have wasted all these years with you?”

I was pushed down by him in a mess, but fell steadily into a warm embrace.

It was my boss, Sean Jordan, who took great care of me. He knelt down on one knee and proposed to me, “Scarlett, give me a chance to love you.”

I agreed out of spite and Sean really gave me a grand wedding. He loved and cared for me after marriage and everyone praised me for having a blessing in disguise.

But three years later, after I bought my wedding anniversary gift and logged out of my tablet, I accidentally saw the chat history between him and his assistant.

“Mr. Jordan, since you loved Marissa so much and made her a famous actress, why didn't you just marry her instead of giving her away?”

“Marissa likes Tyler, so I married Scarlett to make her happy. As long as she can be happy, let alone become a movie queen, I will help her clear all stumbling blocks.”

I felt like I was falling into an icy cave.

Only then did I realize that all the love and affection they had shown in the three years of marriage was just an act.

Since he loved Marissa so deeply, I would step aside and help him.

——

My phone ran out of battery, so I remembered to use the tablet at home to choose gifts.

But I saw things I should not have seen.

Sean always spoke briefly and to the point when chatting and rarely sent long paragraphs, but every word in the chat record between him and his assistant was sincere.

[Since Marissa doesn't like me, I will choose to fulfill her wish. She likes acting, so I will help her open a path to the entertainment industry. She wants her husband to become a movie king, so I will do my best to support Tyler]

[She is the one and only love in my heart. Even if she enters the entertainment industry, I will protect her purity and let her be happy forever.]

Seeing those chats made my hands and feet cold, I also felt like I was falling into an icy cave.

But I still continued to slide down with trembling hands.

[As for Scarlett, it's enough to keep her by my side, so she won’t disturb Marissa and Tyler 's happiness. Since I can't marry Marissa anyway.]

[Well, it doesn't matter who you marry.]

I laughed out loud with teary eyes, it would be the same no matter who I married.

At the wedding three years ago, I was humiliated in public and Sean came down from the sky like a hero to propose to me and save me from embarrassment.

I agreed to his proposal out of spite. After marriage, I gradually fell in love with him and indulged in his tenderness.

I thought he loved me deeply.

But I could not believe it was all fake.

From the beginning to the end, he, like Tyler, only loved Marissa in his heart.

The sound of water in the bathroom stopped and I quickly exited the page and put the tablet back where it was.

Footsteps sounded behind me and the next second, Sean hugged me from behind with mist on his face.

“Scarlett, you smell so good,” he said, “I've been busy all day, let me hug you.”

I numbly felt the tenderness and dependence of the person behind me, felling a dull pain in my chest.

In the three years since we got married, everyone who knew me said that Sean and I were a perfect match.

He used to like smoking, but he quit smoking for me just because I frowned.

Then, my dream was to become an actor. So, Sean mobilized all the resources in his hands to support me.

Even when obsessive fans launched personal attacks on me, he protected me behind him without hesitation.

“Please stay rational. I will always support my wife.”

Even though I had been acting for three years and was still in an unknown supporting role, Sean was very doting on me in front of the reporters.

Chapter 2

“As long as my wife is happy, anything is fine.”

But I forgot that as long as Marissa appeared, his eyes would always stay on her.

That was never my illusion.

Noticing my silence, Sean stopped smiling and looked at me nervously.

“Scarlett, what's wrong with you? Why are your eyes red?”

I looked up and asked, “Did you lie to me?”

Sean was stunned, with a hint of panic in his eyes.

But he quickly put on a serious look, “Why are you asking this suddenly? I swore to you when we got married that I would never lie to you.”

Afraid that I did not believe him, he quickly added, “Otherwise, I will lose the person I love forever. Is this oath cruel enough? Scarlett, you can believe me now, right?”

I turned my face away and smiled, but there was a coldness in my eyes.

If you married someone you did not love, would not that mean you lose your love forever?

“Okay, I believe you.” I answered shortly in the end.

Sean breathed a sigh of relief. He was about to carry me to bed, but I stared at him calmly.

“Has the leading actress for the play ‘Flowing Years’ been decided?” I asked.

Sean was stunned.

“Scarlett, why are you asking this all of a sudden? Aren't you planning to not take this role?” Sean sat down, held my hand and asked me with a frown.

He knew very well that I had been practicing my acting skills for half a year in preparation for that play.

But the night before the heroine was confirmed.

Sean suddenly came back drunk. He pushed me down on the bed and kissed me madly.

When our love reached its peak, he held my fingers together and said, “Scarlett, let's have a child.”

I looked at him with a puzzled look.

Sean said with guilt, “I went for a physical examination today and the doctor said I have asthenospermia. It's best to have a baby this year, otherwise it will be difficult to get pregnant in a few years.”

“Scarlett, I know this is unfair to you and you need to sacrifice your work and career, but I promise that after the baby is born, I will let the company get you a few big dramas and make you the heroine, okay?”

I wanted to refuse, but looking at his moist, pleading eyes, I heard my own voice gently ring out, “Okay.”

As a result, Sean tormented me the whole night.

After we were done, he held me in his arms and said, “Then we won't go to the crew starting tomorrow. Let's stay at home and prepare for pregnancy.”

All my words got stuck in my throat.

But little did they know that he did not have asthenospermia at all and did not want a child.

Just because, the night he got drunk, Marissa came to see him.

While he was sleeping, I ran to the underground garage and checked the dashcam.

“Sean, I know you are the best. This play is very important to me. Please give me the female lead,” Marissa begged in a coquettish manner.

Sean was silent for a while before answering, “But I have already promised this play to Scarlett. You know, she…."

The next second his words were interrupted, replaced by rapid breathing.

Maybe it was Marissa who kissed him.

“Sean, I know you like me and I just want to be in that play, even if it means just sleeping with you for one night.

“Just find a reason to explain to Scarlett. Anyway, she is just a minor supporting role, so it doesn't matter whether she acts or not.”

Then there was the sound of a zipper.

Sean could not believe it and directly said, “Marissa, you don't have to be like this.”

He pushed the person away, zipped up his pants again and said in a hoarse voice, “I can give you anything you want, even my life.”

Chapter 3

“Marissa, don't worry. If you want that play, it's yours. I will persuade Scarlett to give it up.

“We've arrived at your home, go back.”

After reading it, I understood everything about asthenospermia.

I had already asked my private doctor about the results of that physical examination and Sean was in good health.

As for children, Sean had never liked children, let alone having one.

I just did not expect that he could do that for Marissa.

I had worked so hard for that play after all.

Thinking of that, I suddenly smiled and said, “It's nothing. Go to bed early.”

I turned off the lights on my own initiative and turned my back to him.

Sean tucked in the quilt for me and was about to lie down beside me when his mobile phone suddenly rang.

“I told you not to disturb me after work, why is Assistant…?"

As he looked down at his phone, his soliloquy came to an abrupt halt.

His expression suddenly changed.

As he turned around, I took a glance and saw the note was Marissa.

In the three years since they got married, Sean's rule was to turn off his mobile phone when he entered the house.

The media hyped up that incident, saying how much Mr. Jordan of Bright Entertainment loved his wife and only spent his time after work with her.

But they were not right.

Once I met Marissa, all exceptions were made.

Sean came back after answering the phone, picked up his coat with an anxious look on his face and was about to leave.

“Scarlett, there's something going on at the company and I have to go check it out first. "

I stared at him calmly and asked, “Didn't you promise to stay at home after work?”

Sean was stunned for a moment, a hint of impatience flashed across his face. “This is a special situation, I will explain it to you when I come back,” he answered, then directly went to slam shut the door.

The last thing I saw was the veins bulging on the back of Sean’s hands due to anxiety.

I sneered, put on my clothes and followed Sean. While he went to the underground garage, I took a taxi and waited at the door.

When Sean's car drove out, I said to the driver, “Follow the car in front.”

I saw with my own eyes that Sean stopped at the villa complex where Marissa lived and came out five minutes later with the haggard-looking Marissa in his arms.

There was an unprecedented panic on his face. “Marissa, hold on a little longer. I'll take you to the hospital."

Marissa hooked her arm around his neck and nodded.

Sean ran through three red lights along the way. When he arrived at the hospital, he quickly registered for emergency treatment.

The nurse looked up and said, “Ask your wife to sit over here.”

Sean was stunned for a moment, but did not deny it.

It turned out that Marissa had appendicitis. During the whole process of examination, Sean stayed quietly by her side and the patient in the next bed gave her admiring looks.

“Your husband is handsome and gentle. He stays with you until the middle of the night. You are so lucky.”

Sean smiled and subconsciously looked at Marissa lovingly.

Marissa shook her head and patted his shoulder, “He is not my husband, but my good brother. I am grateful to him for what happened today.”

Sean's face was filled with loneliness, but he accepted it all.

As she was discharged from the hospital, Sean still held her carefully in his arms.

“Is Tyler... not caring for you?”

Marissa looked at him with a smile before answering, “How could that be? Tyler has loved me for so many years and now that he has finally married me, I must cherish him well.

“He just spent a fortune to buy me the naming rights for a star a few days ago. He wanted to stay home with me today, but the crew couldn't get him away.

“Unexpectedly, I got appendicitis. I couldn't bear to disturb him from filming, so I called you. Sean, you don't mind, do you?"

I thought Sean would be disappointed to be treated as a spare tire.

Unexpectedly, there was a hint of a smile on his face and his tone was extremely pious.

Chapter 4

“I don't mind. I'm very happy that you can think of me when you need me.”

I closed my eyes. I no longer cared where they were going or what they were going to do.

I never had known that Sean was so infatuated, so it was better to not see it with my own eyes.

I had completely given up.

The time Sean came back, it was already the next morning. He saw that I had only made breakfast for one person and smiled guiltily.

“Scarlett, I'm sorry. I finished my work at the company in the early morning last night. I did not want to wake you up when I came back, so I stayed at the company for the night.”

My face remained calm as I muttered, “It's okay.”

Suddenly a push notification popped up on the phone.

I accidentally clicked on it and it turned out to be photos taken by paparazzi last night.

[Surprise! The president of Bright Entertainment went into Marissa’s private villa last night and did not come out until dawn.]

When I saw it, Sean was also staring at his phone and frowning.

“Tell them to delete it immediately,” He whispered to his assistant and sure enough, five minutes later, all the marketing accounts were deleted and the push message seemed to have never appeared.

I smiled bitterly and stood up. Sean looked at me warily.

“Scarlett, where are you going?”

I almost forgot that that day was the day for the audition for the female lead in ‘The Lost Time.’

Since Marissa had already been chosen, the so-called audition was just a formality.

He was probably afraid that I would suddenly change my mind and compete with Marissa for the role.

I said calmly, “I've been bored at home for too long, I'm going out to buy a cake.”

Sean smiled and wanted to follow, “I'll take you there.”

“No.” I looked up at him and said, “There's an audition today, aren't you going to take a look?”

As expected, I guessed Sean's thoughts correctly, so he did not need to make any excuses anymore and even his steps became lighter when he left.

I withdrew my gaze, printed out my resume and changed into something more formal.

Then, I took a taxi to another crew.

“Your name is Scarlett?” The staff member looked up at me in confusion and said, “If I remember correctly, your husband runs an entertainment company and has a lot of resources.”

He looked at me with his arms crossed, his tone somewhat sarcastic. “I heard that your husband's new play is auditioning today. Wouldn't it be easy for you to get the leading female role? Why did you come to our small crew to audition for a supporting role?”

I could not help but smile bitterly.

I used to think so too.

I had seen many posts more than once and many netizens said, “Scarlett is such a good actor and has good looks, how can she not be popular?”

“That's right, Marissa's acting is so embarrassing, how can she become a movie queen like this?”

But after more than ten minutes, those comments questioning Marissa quickly disappeared.

Even those who praised my acting skills were overwhelmed by countless internet trolls and zombie posts praising Marissa’s beauty.

Even if I was dumb, I still could see that.

In the past two years, Sean had devoted all his resources to cultivating Tyler and Marissa as a couple.

I originally thought it was because of their old friendship as college classmates.

But then that I knew Sean's thoughts, what else was there that I did not understand?

His heart was landing only on Marissa and his world was only rotating toward Marissa. That was why, everything he did was to pave the way for Marissa.

“Those are all news hype. I don't know Sean and he is not my husband,” I said calmly.

I had already signed the divorce agreement, so it was not a lie.

“And I want to bring this character to life with my acting skills.”

The staff looked at me for a long time and finally put a cross on my name.

Chapter 5

“I'm sorry, Miss Chesire, we already have a suitable candidate for this role.”

I was stunned. I had not even auditioned yet, so why was I rejected?

I begged them again and again to consider me.

But he was ordered to leave.

I held my resume in my hand and waited for a long time. I heard them whisper, “Who dares to hire her? Bright's CEO has already announced that his wife cannot be allowed to act in any drama."

“Everyone knows that Scarlett is such a great actress. If she accidentally overshadows Marissa, that would be a disaster."

I bit my lip tightly. ‘Sean, do you really want to make it impossible for me to survive in this circle?’

Suddenly someone called me, “Wait a moment.”

I slowly turned around and saw the man in sunglasses staring at me. “I have another play here, with a lot of dirty and tiring work. Do you want to take it?”

I nodded suddenly, “I'll take it. "

I recognized him. He was the famous Director Zayne.

He was best at discovering buried new talents and had a keen eye for identifying gems.

I exchanged contact information with him that day and agreed to come to the crew for an audition the next day.

But I did not expect that when I arrived at the crew the next day with great joy, I saw the person I least wanted to see in my life.

Tyler deliberately poured a glass of cold water on my face. “Oh, sorry, I didn't see anyone coming.”

He looked at me with disdain. “Isn't this Mrs. Jordan? Mr. Jordan said a few days ago that you were going to stay at home to prepare for pregnancy and take care of the baby and you would temporarily quit the entertainment circle. What's going on?

“Could it be that you found out that you couldn't get pregnant, so you came to the film in despair?”

A few brothers laughed and joked and someone asked him, “What? Did you know each other before?”

Tyler sneered, “More than knowing each other, this Mrs. Jordan has been pursuing me for five years. If she hadn't drugged me, climbed into my bed and forced me to be her boyfriend, how could I have waited until three years ago to marry Marissa?"

I looked up in surprise. That was not the case.

But no one listened to my explanation.

Their sneers grew louder, even with the malicious gaze of someone in a higher position.

“I really can't believe Scarlett is such a cheap woman. "

“No wonder Sean is still picking up girls on the set even though he's married. Is it because he can't sleep when he sees this face and thinks of the disgusting things she did?”

“Didn't she claim to be preparing for pregnancy at home? It seems that she knew she couldn't get pregnant, so she came here to act in shame.”

“What is she acting for? No matter how hard you act, you can't be better than Marissa. "

Unpleasant and unbearable words kept coming.

I glared at Tyler, “Watch your mouth, it was you who drugged me in the first place, don't confuse right and wrong here.”

He approached me step by step, “Did I drug you?

“Don't you see why you are so worthy? Apart from your face, what else is there to see? You can't even compare Marissa with a finger. "

My eyes turned red with shame and anger and I tried to slap him, but Tyler grabbed my wrist.

“Hey, you still want to hit me?”

His eyes fell unscrupulously under my collar and he spoke with a smile.

“I haven't seen you for three years. I didn't expect Sean to raise you so beautifully. It really makes me want to be with you. Since you are eager to come over, why don't I give you some face?"

I widened my eyes, but Tyler leaned over and kissed me like a shameless man.

I was just about to pick up the stick next to me and hit him.

Before I could get the stick, I heard a scream at the door.

“Scarlett, why are you so persistent? You've been married for three years and you're still thinking about seducing my husband?”

Following behind her was Sean, whose face was ashen.
